STS Launches the MYP Programme 2026 | Staying Curious in IB Official Launch Ceremony

Sunflower Trilingual School officially launched the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (MYP) on May 18, 2026, marking an important milestone in the school’s continued growth and development. STS is currently an IB MYP Candidate School and is working toward full authorization as part of the International Baccalaureate World School community. The formal launch ceremony recognized the school’s candidacy and its commitment to international education and student-centered learning.

The opening ceremony brought together MYP students, teachers, school leadership, and members of the school community in celebration of this important new chapter. School Director Dr. Kwantip Chinsettawong and Headmaster Simon Gauci joined students and staff in formally recognizing the beginning of the programme and the school’s continued journey toward IB authorization.

Over the past week, STS has been actively engaged in preparing students, parents, and teachers for the implementation of the MYP programme. On Saturday, the school hosted an introductory parent meeting focused on the MYP framework and the transition toward IB learning. Grade-level meetings were also held to help families better understand key elements of the programme, including Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills, the IB Learner Profile, and MYP assessment practices.

Throughout the week, students participated in a variety of induction activities designed to introduce them to the philosophy and structure of the IB programme. These student-centered activities focused on collaboration, inquiry, communication, reflection, and community building. Students also helped prepare and decorate their newly renovated classrooms, creating welcoming learning spaces for the academic year ahead.

STS teachers and administrators have completed official IB professional development training and continue to work closely together throughout the candidacy process. The school also recognizes the important leadership and contributions of MYP Coordinator Ms. Gleph, who has been instrumental in preparing faculty through professional development sessions, in-house training, collaborative planning, and ongoing programme support. The teacher leadership team has also played a significant role in supporting the school’s continued growth and the successful launch of the MYP programme.

As Headmaster of STS, I would also like to sincerely thank our faculty for their dedication, professionalism, openness, and willingness to engage deeply in this exciting stage of school development. Transitioning into the IB Middle Years Programme requires teachers to participate in ongoing professional learning, collaboration, reflection, and the exploration of new approaches to teaching and learning. Our faculty have approached this process with curiosity, commitment, and a genuine willingness to grow together as educators.

Over the past months, teachers have participated in official IB workshops, in-house professional development sessions, collaborative planning meetings, and student induction activities in preparation for the launch of the MYP programme. Their consistent engagement and readiness to support students during this transition deserve recognition and appreciation. These are challenging times, but they are also inspiring, exciting, and transformative learning experiences for our entire school community.

I would also like to express sincere gratitude and thanks to School Director Dr. Kwantip Chinsettawong for her ongoing support and leadership. Her vision and commitment have helped guide the strategic direction of the school during this important stage of development and growth.

I commend our teachers and leadership teams for the energy, positivity, and professionalism they continue to demonstrate each day as we work together toward becoming an authorized IB World School.

The school community is enthusiastic about the opportunities the MYP will bring to students as STS continues its journey toward authorization. The launch of the MYP programme represents another important step in the school’s commitment to international-mindedness, holistic education, and preparing students for an increasingly interconnected world.
